How to install AgentPlaybooks in your AI client
Setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf, Cline and VS Code — copy-paste ready.
How to install AgentPlaybooks in Claude CodeAnthropic's agentic CLI
Add the server
bashclaude mcp add --transport http agentplaybooks https://agentplaybooks.ai/api/mcp/manage --header 'Authorization: Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>'Fill in your credentials
Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.
Verify it's connected
bashclaude mcp listSharing it with your team?
Add `--scope project` to write it to .mcp.json in the repository root, which you can commit (with the secrets left as environment variables).
Use it in a session
Ask Claude to use the tools this server exposes. It discovers them automatically.
How to install AgentPlaybooks in Claude DesktopDesktop app (MCP config)
Open your MCP config
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json · Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
Add this server
json{ "mcpServers": { "agentplaybooks": { "command": "npx", "args": [ "-y", "mcp-remote", "https://agentplaybooks.ai/api/mcp/manage", "--header", "Authorization:${AUTH_HEADER}" ], "env": { "AUTH_HEADER": "Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>" } } } }Fill in your credentials
Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.
Why the wrapper?
This is a remote (HTTP) server and Claude Desktop only launches local processes, so mcp-remote proxies the connection. It will open a browser window if the server needs OAuth.
Restart Claude Desktop
The tools appear under the 🔌 menu once the app reloads.
How to install AgentPlaybooks in CursorAI-first code editor
Create / edit .cursor/mcp.json in your project
json{ "mcpServers": { "agentplaybooks": { "url": "https://agentplaybooks.ai/api/mcp/manage", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>" } } } }Fill in your credentials
Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.
Enable it
Cursor Settings → MCP → toggle the server on. Tools become available to the Composer/Agent.
How to install AgentPlaybooks in Codex CLIOpenAI coding agent
Add to ~/.codex/config.toml
toml[mcp_servers.agentplaybooks] command = "npx" args = ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://agentplaybooks.ai/api/mcp/manage", "--header", "Authorization:${AUTH_HEADER}"] env = { AUTH_HEADER = "Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>" }Fill in your credentials
Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.
Why the wrapper?
Codex runs MCP servers as local processes, so mcp-remote bridges this HTTP endpoint to stdio.
Run Codex
Codex loads MCP servers from config.toml on startup and exposes their tools to the agent.
How to install AgentPlaybooks in WindsurfCodeium's agentic IDE
Edit ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json
json{ "mcpServers": { "agentplaybooks": { "serverUrl": "https://agentplaybooks.ai/api/mcp/manage", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>" } } } }Fill in your credentials
Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.
Reload
Windsurf → Cascade → refresh MCP servers. Cascade can now call the tools.
How to install AgentPlaybooks in ClineVS Code autonomous agent
Open Cline → MCP Servers → Configure
Adds to cline_mcp_settings.json.
Add the server
json{ "mcpServers": { "agentplaybooks": { "type": "streamableHttp", "url": "https://agentplaybooks.ai/api/mcp/manage", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>" } } } }Fill in your credentials
Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.
How to install AgentPlaybooks in VS CodeCopilot / MCP support
Create .vscode/mcp.json
json{ "servers": { "agentplaybooks": { "type": "http", "url": "https://agentplaybooks.ai/api/mcp/manage", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>" } } } }Fill in your credentials
Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.
Start it
VS Code shows a ▶ Start action above the server entry. Agent mode (Copilot Chat) can then use the tools.
What does AgentPlaybooks need from you?
OAuth or bearer token — Optional. OAuth 2.1 with PKCE is the default: an OAuth-capable client gets a 401 with a resource_metadata challenge and signs in through the browser. Set this only for headless use, as a Bearer AgentPlaybooks user API key (for example: Bea…

What the code can do
This is a remote server — nothing is installed or run on your machine, so there is no local code to analyze. What it can reach is described above: your requests go to the provider's host.

Full READMEAgentPlaybooks
One playbook, every agent. A portable operating environment for AI agents — persona, skills, MCP servers, project instructions, and memory in one source of truth.
Keep your agents yours. AgentPlaybooks stores skills, personas, MCP servers, project instructions, and memory in one portable playbook, so you can switch platforms, use several at once, or self-host without vendor lock-in.
Your agent setup stays in sync across Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, Gemini, local models, and future platforms. The playbook is the portable source of truth—not any single vendor or editor.
It is not another skill store or MCP registry. Skills and MCP connections are parts of a playbook; the playbook is the whole job. That holds for agents with a body too: a skill can carry demonstrations, recordings of the task in the order a robot performs them.
Highlights
What a playbook holds
- Persona: 1 per playbook, stored directly on the playbook record
- Instructions: always-on project rules — the
AGENTS.md/CLAUDE.mdcontent - Skills:
SKILL.mddocuments in the Agent Skills format, frontmatter preserved across every client - Skill attachments: bundled scripts, references, and templates, round-tripped by the CLI
- Demonstrations: recordings of a skill being performed — YouTube, a pinned URL, or a LeRobot dataset — with timestamped segments, for agents that learn by watching
- MCP servers: tools and resources in Model Context Protocol format
- Memory: key-value store with tags and descriptions, with a native Hermes memory provider
- Hermes Tools plugin: connect playbook skills, MCP/OpenAPI tools, and credentials
- Canvas: versioned markdown work documents, scoped to a playbook run, so several
teams can execute the same playbook without sharing work products
Credentials, without handing them over
- Secrets vault: AES-256-GCM, per-user derived keys. Agents reference a secret by
name and the platform injects it server-side (use_secret), so the value never enters an agent's context. Optional per-secret host allow-lists, and an expiry that is enforced: an expired secret is refused by every path that would use it.
- Federation: other MCP servers and OpenAPI services become tools on your
playbook, with their credentials resolved from that same vault by name
