How to install Mothership in your AI client
Setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf, Cline and VS Code — copy-paste ready.
How to install Mothership in Claude CodeAnthropic's agentic CLI
Add the server
bashclaude mcp add --transport http mothership https://mcp.mothership.comVerify it's connected
bashclaude mcp listSharing it with your team?
Add `--scope project` to write it to .mcp.json in the repository root, which you can commit (with the secrets left as environment variables).
Use it in a session
Ask Claude to use the tools this server exposes. It discovers them automatically.
How to install Mothership in Claude DesktopDesktop app (MCP config)
Open your MCP config
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json · Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
Add this server
json{ "mcpServers": { "mothership": { "command": "npx", "args": [ "-y", "mcp-remote", "https://mcp.mothership.com" ] } } }Why the wrapper?
This is a remote (HTTP) server and Claude Desktop only launches local processes, so mcp-remote proxies the connection. It will open a browser window if the server needs OAuth.
Restart Claude Desktop
The tools appear under the 🔌 menu once the app reloads.
How to install Mothership in CursorAI-first code editor
Create / edit .cursor/mcp.json in your project
json{ "mcpServers": { "mothership": { "url": "https://mcp.mothership.com" } } }Enable it
Cursor Settings → MCP → toggle the server on. Tools become available to the Composer/Agent.
How to install Mothership in Codex CLIOpenAI coding agent
Add to ~/.codex/config.toml
toml[mcp_servers.mothership] command = "npx" args = ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://mcp.mothership.com"]Why the wrapper?
Codex runs MCP servers as local processes, so mcp-remote bridges this HTTP endpoint to stdio.
Run Codex
Codex loads MCP servers from config.toml on startup and exposes their tools to the agent.
How to install Mothership in WindsurfCodeium's agentic IDE
Edit ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json
json{ "mcpServers": { "mothership": { "serverUrl": "https://mcp.mothership.com" } } }Reload
Windsurf → Cascade → refresh MCP servers. Cascade can now call the tools.
How to install Mothership in ClineVS Code autonomous agent
Open Cline → MCP Servers → Configure
Adds to cline_mcp_settings.json.
Add the server
json{ "mcpServers": { "mothership": { "type": "streamableHttp", "url": "https://mcp.mothership.com" } } }
How to install Mothership in VS CodeCopilot / MCP support
Create .vscode/mcp.json
json{ "servers": { "mothership": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.mothership.com" } } }Start it
VS Code shows a ▶ Start action above the server entry. Agent mode (Copilot Chat) can then use the tools.

This server requires credentials before it will list its tools, so we cannot enumerate them here. Connect it in your client to see what it offers.
What the code can do
This is a remote server — nothing is installed or run on your machine, so there is no local code to analyze. What it can reach is described above: your requests go to the provider's host.

Full READMEMothership MCP server
Mothership is a freight marketplace for LTL, truckload and local freight. Its MCP server connects your AI assistant to your Mothership account, so you can get rates, track and cancel shipments, find freight classes and check your bills by asking in plain language.
The server is at https://mcp.mothership.com and speaks Streamable HTTP. You sign in with your Mothership account over OAuth 2.1, and the assistant sees only what your account can see. The official MCP Registry lists it as com.mothership/mothership.
This repo also holds the Mothership plugin for Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor, which adds Mothership's skills to the server. See Plugins.
What it can do
With the server connected, your assistant can:
- Quote LTL, truckload and local freight. It shows each carrier's price and delivery date, with a link to book the rate you pick in the Mothership dashboard. Every quote it gets is saved to your account.
- Track a shipment by its Mothership reference, PRO, BOL or pickup number, or your own reference: status, pickup and delivery windows, carrier, cargo, documents and the newest tracking updates.
- Find, list and count your shipments by date, status or carrier.
- Cancel a shipment. It shows the cancellation fee and refund first, and cancels only after you confirm.
- Find the NMFC item for what you ship, read an item's freight classes, and estimate a class from weight and dimensions.
- Check whether Mothership serves an address, and whether it's residential or limited access.
- Show your invoices, rebills, payment methods and billing details.
- Start freight claims, follow them, and accept or rebut a claim decision.
- Keep your address book, invite and manage teammates, and set up webhooks.
- Search Mothership's help articles and your support conversations.
In clients that support MCP Apps, such as Claude and ChatGPT, quotes and shipments can show as cards.
Connect
Any MCP client that supports remote servers with OAuth can connect to https://mcp.mothership.com. The first time it connects, it opens a Mothership sign-in page, and you approve the client's access. You need a Mothership account. If you don't have one, sign up at https://dashboard.mothership.com/signup.
Clients identify themselves with a Client ID Metadata Document, as Claude, ChatGPT and VS Code do. The server doesn't support dynamic client registration. Cursor signs in with a client ID that Mothership set up for it.
Claude
In claude.ai or the Claude desktop app, add Mothership as a custom connector. On Free, Pro and Max plans:
- Go to Customize > Connectors, select + Add, then Add custom connector.
- Enter
Mothershipas the name andhttps://mcp.mothership.comas the URL, and select Continue. - Keep the authentication settings Claude detects. Under OAuth client, leave Use Claude's published identity selected, since Mothership doesn't support Register automatically.
- Select Add, then sign in with your Mothership account.
