audrey MCP server
io.github.Evilander · Updated
Local-first biological memory for coding agents: recall, consolidation, and pre-action Guard checks.
At a glance
audrey is an MCP server in the AI & Memory category. It runs locally over stdio via `npx -y audrey`, and declares no required credentials. It scores A (84/100) on the MCP Skills Hub health score as of Oct 28, 2026.
One-click install
Opens your editor and pre-fills the config. Your editor will ask before adding it.
How to install audrey in your AI client
Setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf, Cline and VS Code — copy-paste ready.
How to install audrey in Claude CodeAnthropic's agentic CLI
Add the server
bashclaude mcp add audrey -- npx -y audreyVerify it's connected
bashclaude mcp listSharing it with your team?
Add `--scope project` to write it to .mcp.json in the repository root, which you can commit (with the secrets left as environment variables).
Use it in a session
Ask Claude to use the tools this server exposes. It discovers them automatically.
How to install audrey in Claude DesktopDesktop app (MCP config)
Open your MCP config
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json · Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
Add this server
json{ "mcpServers": { "audrey": { "command": "npx", "args": [ "-y", "audrey" ] } } }Restart Claude Desktop
The tools appear under the 🔌 menu once the app reloads.
How to install audrey in CursorAI-first code editor
Create / edit .cursor/mcp.json in your project
json{ "mcpServers": { "audrey": { "command": "npx", "args": [ "-y", "audrey" ] } } }Enable it
Cursor Settings → MCP → toggle the server on. Tools become available to the Composer/Agent.
How to install audrey in Codex CLIOpenAI coding agent
Add to ~/.codex/config.toml
toml[mcp_servers.audrey] command = "npx" args = ["-y", "audrey"]Run Codex
Codex loads MCP servers from config.toml on startup and exposes their tools to the agent.
How to install audrey in WindsurfCodeium's agentic IDE
Edit ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json
json{ "mcpServers": { "audrey": { "command": "npx", "args": [ "-y", "audrey" ] } } }Reload
Windsurf → Cascade → refresh MCP servers. Cascade can now call the tools.
How to install audrey in ClineVS Code autonomous agent
Open Cline → MCP Servers → Configure
Adds to cline_mcp_settings.json.
Add the server
json{ "mcpServers": { "audrey": { "command": "npx", "args": [ "-y", "audrey" ] } } }
How to install audrey in VS CodeCopilot / MCP support
Create .vscode/mcp.json
json{ "servers": { "audrey": { "type": "stdio", "command": "npx", "args": [ "-y", "audrey" ] } } }Start it
VS Code shows a ▶ Start action above the server entry. Agent mode (Copilot Chat) can then use the tools.
What does audrey need from you?
Configuration only — Declares config values but no credentials.
AUDREY_DATA_DIRoptionalEnvironment variableDirectory for the SQLite memory store (defaults to ~/.audrey/data)
AUDREY_AGENToptionalEnvironment variableLogical memory owner used for scoped operations (defaults to local-agent)
AUDREY_EMBEDDING_PROVIDERoptionalEnvironment variablelocal (default, on-device model), openai, gemini, or mock
AUDREY_LLM_PROVIDERoptionalEnvironment variableOptional reflection/consolidation model: anthropic, openai, chatgpt, or mock; unset keeps everything local
AUDREY_ENABLE_ADMIN_TOOLSoptionalEnvironment variableSet to 1 to expose the export, import, forget, and promote tools
Pass secrets through your shell environment rather than committing them into a config file.
What tools does audrey expose?
This server runs as a local package. We only query remote servers for their tool list — asking this one would mean executing it, so its tools are listed in the documentation below.
What the code can do
Read from the published package source — never executed. Parsed 61 of 61 source files.
This server can run other programs on your machine, read and write files and make network requests.
How it was published
- Published by a verified CI identity (github trusted publishing) rather than a personal token.
- Has a provenance attestation tying this artifact to the commit it was built from.
- 1 npm maintainer — a single point of compromise · last published by GitHub Actions.

What it can reach
- Runs code on your machine — Executes as a local process with your user's permissions, including filesystem access.
- Downloads at launch — The package is fetched from its registry each run unless you pin a version.
- Last commit today — Actively maintained.
- 26 GitHub stars — Community adoption signal.

Full README<strong>Memory that shows up before your coding agent makes the same mistake twice.</strong>
Audrey gives Codex and Claude Code one local, evidence-backed memory loop: remember what mattered, recall it automatically, check before acting, and learn from what happened next.
Memory before action
You fix the deploy command on Monday. On Thursday, a fresh session tries the broken version again.
Audrey brings relevant project memory into the next session, checks supported tool calls before they run, and links their reported outcomes to the check that preceded them. A Guard decision carries evidence IDs you can inspect. Grounding can flag memories that reference deleted files or package scripts.
Try the SQLite-backed demo before configuring a host:
npm exec --yes --package=audrey -- audrey demo --scenario repeated-failureThe demo simulates a failed deploy, passes read-only inspection commands through the hook, and checks a proposed retry. It does not execute a deployment or change host configuration. After npm fetches the package, the demo needs no API key, model download, or network call.
Meet Audrey Autopilot
Install Audrey once, review the hooks once, and then use Codex or Claude Code normally.
npm install -g audrey
audrey install --host autoRequires Node.js 22.16+ (22.x) or 24+. SQLite is built into Node, so fresh installs and npx launches work without approving dependency scripts. npm 11.17+ may warn about dependency scripts, and npm 12 may report that it blocked them; those scripts are not required for Audrey's CPU embedding runtime.
auto configures whichever supported CLIs are installed. You can choose one explicitly:
audrey install --host codex
audrey install --host claude-codeExcerpt — the full document is on GitHub.
