## Install

### How to install House AI in Claude Code

1. Add the server

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http house-ai https://mcp.houseaiapp.com/mcp --header 'Authorization: Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>'
```

2. Fill in your credentials

   Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.

3. Verify it's connected

```bash
claude mcp list
```

4. Sharing it with your team?

   Add `--scope project` to write it to .mcp.json in the repository root, which you can commit (with the secrets left as environment variables).

5. Use it in a session

   Ask Claude to use the tools this server exposes (e.g. search_design_styles, get_design_style, get_house_ai_app_link). It discovers them automatically.

### How to install House AI in Claude Desktop

1. Open your MCP config

   macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json · Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add this server

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "house-ai": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "mcp-remote",
        "https://mcp.houseaiapp.com/mcp",
        "--header",
        "Authorization:${AUTH_HEADER}"
      ],
      "env": {
        "AUTH_HEADER": "Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

3. Fill in your credentials

   Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.

4. Why the wrapper?

   This is a remote (HTTP) server and Claude Desktop only launches local processes, so mcp-remote proxies the connection. It will open a browser window if the server needs OAuth.

5. Restart Claude Desktop

   The tools appear under the 🔌 menu once the app reloads.

### How to install House AI in Cursor

1. Create / edit .cursor/mcp.json in your project

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "house-ai": {
      "url": "https://mcp.houseaiapp.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

2. Fill in your credentials

   Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.

3. Enable it

   Cursor Settings → MCP → toggle the server on. Tools become available to the Composer/Agent.

### How to install House AI in Codex CLI

1. Add to ~/.codex/config.toml

```toml
[mcp_servers.house-ai]
command = "npx"
args = ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://mcp.houseaiapp.com/mcp", "--header", "Authorization:${AUTH_HEADER}"]
env = { AUTH_HEADER = "Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>" }
```

2. Fill in your credentials

   Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.

3. Why the wrapper?

   Codex runs MCP servers as local processes, so mcp-remote bridges this HTTP endpoint to stdio.

4. Run Codex

   Codex loads MCP servers from config.toml on startup and exposes their tools to the agent.

### How to install House AI in Windsurf

1. Edit ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "house-ai": {
      "serverUrl": "https://mcp.houseaiapp.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

2. Fill in your credentials

   Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.

3. Reload

   Windsurf → Cascade → refresh MCP servers. Cascade can now call the tools.

### How to install House AI in Cline

1. Open Cline → MCP Servers → Configure

   Adds to cline_mcp_settings.json.

2. Add the server

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "house-ai": {
      "type": "streamableHttp",
      "url": "https://mcp.houseaiapp.com/mcp",
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.houseaiapp.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN>"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

2. Fill in your credentials

   Replace Bearer <YOUR_TOKEN> with your real value. Keep secrets out of any config file you commit.

3. Start it

   VS Code shows a ▶ Start action above the server entry. Agent mode (Copilot Chat) can then use the tools.

## Tools

- `search_design_styles` — Browse House AI's interior design, exterior and landscaping styles (Japandi, Scandinavian, mid-century modern, coastal, farmhouse, industrial and more). Use it when someone is deciding how to redecorate, remodel or restyle a room, a house front or a yard, or wants style ideas. Returns style names with a short description; pass a name to the redesign tools.
- `get_design_style` — Details for one House AI design style: its color palette, materials, furniture, textiles, lighting, decor and what to avoid. Use it to explain a style (for example 'what is Japandi?') or to plan a room makeover before redesigning.
- `get_house_ai_app_link` — A link to download the House AI interior design app for iPhone and Android, where the user's designs are saved and they can keep editing rooms, shop the look and try more styles.
- `get_photo_upload_link` — Make a private link where the user can upload a photo of their room, house or yard from their phone or computer. Use it when the user wants a redesign but hasn't attached a photo and this app can't pass attached photos to tools. After they say it's uploaded, pass the upload_id to the redesign tool.
- `redesign_room` — AI interior design: redesign, redecorate or remodel a room from a photo of it, in a chosen style (for example a Japandi living room, a modern farmhouse kitchen or a cozy bedroom makeover). Keeps the room's layout and returns a photorealistic image of the new design. Uses one House AI design credit. Needs a photo: attached in chat, a public link, or an upload_id from get_photo_upload_link.
- `redesign_exterior` — AI exterior design and landscaping: restyle the outside of a house or building for curb appeal (siding, paint, trim, roof color, front door) or redesign a yard, patio or garden, from a photo. Returns a photorealistic image of the new design. Uses one House AI design credit.
- `paint_walls` — Repaint the walls in a photo of a room or house with a new paint color, to preview a color before painting (for example 'sage green', 'warm white with black trim'). Uses one House AI design credit.
- `change_flooring` — Replace the floor in a room photo with new flooring, to preview a renovation (for example 'light oak hardwood', 'large gray porcelain tile', 'herringbone'). Uses one House AI design credit.
- `empty_room` — Remove the furniture and clutter from a room photo to see the empty space, for decluttering, moving or planning a new layout. Uses one House AI design credit.
- `furnish_empty_room` — Virtual staging: furnish and decorate an empty or bare room from a photo in a chosen style, for a new home, a rental or a listing. Uses one House AI design credit.
- `find_furniture_and_decor` — Search House AI's shop for real furniture and home decor you can buy, like sofas, rugs, lamps, coffee tables, beds or wall art, optionally under a budget. Returns products with prices, sellers and links.
- `shop_this_look` — Find real products that match an item in a room photo or a House AI design, for example the sofa, rug or pendant light in a redesign. Pass the design's image_url and the item to find.
- `list_my_designs` — The user's recent House AI designs (room redesigns, exteriors, paint and flooring previews), newest first, with image links.
- `get_my_credits` — How many House AI designs the user can still make today or this plan period.
