## Install

### How to install agent-browser in Claude Code

1. Add the server

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http agent-browser https://agent-browser-r7d2.onrender.com/mcp
```

2. Verify it's connected

```bash
claude mcp list
```

3. Sharing it with your team?

   Add `--scope project` to write it to .mcp.json in the repository root, which you can commit (with the secrets left as environment variables).

4. Use it in a session

   Ask Claude to use the tools this server exposes (e.g. browser_navigate, browser_extract, browser_snapshot). It discovers them automatically.

### How to install agent-browser in Claude Desktop

1. Open your MCP config

   macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json · Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add this server

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "agent-browser": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "mcp-remote",
        "https://agent-browser-r7d2.onrender.com/mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

3. Why the wrapper?

   This is a remote (HTTP) server and Claude Desktop only launches local processes, so mcp-remote proxies the connection. It will open a browser window if the server needs OAuth.

4. Restart Claude Desktop

   The tools appear under the 🔌 menu once the app reloads.

### How to install agent-browser in Cursor

1. Create / edit .cursor/mcp.json in your project

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "agent-browser": {
      "url": "https://agent-browser-r7d2.onrender.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

2. Enable it

   Cursor Settings → MCP → toggle the server on. Tools become available to the Composer/Agent.

### How to install agent-browser in Codex CLI

1. Add to ~/.codex/config.toml

```toml
[mcp_servers.agent-browser]
command = "npx"
args = ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://agent-browser-r7d2.onrender.com/mcp"]
```

2. Why the wrapper?

   Codex runs MCP servers as local processes, so mcp-remote bridges this HTTP endpoint to stdio.

3. Run Codex

   Codex loads MCP servers from config.toml on startup and exposes their tools to the agent.

### How to install agent-browser in Windsurf

1. Edit ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "agent-browser": {
      "serverUrl": "https://agent-browser-r7d2.onrender.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

2. Reload

   Windsurf → Cascade → refresh MCP servers. Cascade can now call the tools.

### How to install agent-browser in Cline

1. Open Cline → MCP Servers → Configure

   Adds to cline_mcp_settings.json.

2. Add the server

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "agent-browser": {
      "type": "streamableHttp",
      "url": "https://agent-browser-r7d2.onrender.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

### How to install agent-browser in VS Code

1. Create .vscode/mcp.json

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "agent-browser": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://agent-browser-r7d2.onrender.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

2. Start it

   VS Code shows a ▶ Start action above the server entry. Agent mode (Copilot Chat) can then use the tools.

## Tools

- `browser_navigate` — Use for: loading a web page in a real Chromium browser and reading it. Returns the page title, final URL and a clean text extract (up to 8000 chars). Don't use when: you only need raw HTML or an API response — a plain HTTP fetch is cheaper. Errors are structured: NAV_TIMEOUT, NAV_FAILED, INVALID_URL.
- `browser_extract` — Use for: pulling repeated elements (prices, titles, links) from the page a session is on, via a CSS selector, or the full page text when no selector is given. Returns one string per matched element. Don't use when: the page has not been loaded yet — call browser_navigate first.
- `browser_snapshot` — Use for: understanding page structure cheaply and deterministically — returns the accessibility tree (roles, names, states) as compact YAML instead of pixels or raw HTML. This is the lowest-token way to decide what to click or fill next. Don't use when: you need visual layout or images — use browser_screenshot.
- `browser_act` — Use for: interacting with the page — click, fill, type, select, submit, press. Returns the resulting page title, URL and text so you can verify the action landed. Don't use when: the target element is not on the current page — navigate or snapshot first. This tool can change remote state (it can submit forms).
- `browser_screenshot` — Use for: visual verification — layout, images, charts, CAPTCHA presence, or evidence of page state. Returns a PNG image (JPEG if the PNG exceeds 2.5MB). Don't use when: you only need the page's content or structure — browser_extract and browser_snapshot are far cheaper in tokens.
- `browser_close` — Use for: ending a session and freeing its browser. Sessions also expire automatically after 10 idle minutes. Free on every door — closing is never charged.
