Setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf, Cline and VS Code — copy-paste ready.

How to install optiq-mcp in Claude CodeAnthropic's agentic CLI

  1. Add the server

    bash
    claude mcp add optiq-mcp -- npx -y optiq-mcp
  2. Verify it's connected

    bash
    claude mcp list
  3. Sharing it with your team?

    Add `--scope project` to write it to .mcp.json in the repository root, which you can commit (with the secrets left as environment variables).

  4. Use it in a session

    Ask Claude to use the tools this server exposes. It discovers them automatically.

What tools does optiq-mcp expose?

This server runs as a local package. We only query remote servers for their tool list — asking this one would mean executing it, so its tools are listed in the documentation below.

What the code can do

Read from the published package source — never executed. Parsed 1 of 1 source file.

Nothing in this package's own source reaches for the filesystem, the network, or other programs.

How it was published

  • Has a provenance attestation tying this artifact to the commit it was built from.
  • 1 npm maintainer — a single point of compromise · last published by baur.sha.

Before you install

Signals gathered from the source repo and package registry — not a safety verdict.

What it can reach

  • Runs code on your machine — Executes as a local process with your user's permissions, including filesystem access.
  • Downloads at launch — The package is fetched from its registry each run unless you pin a version.
  • Last commit today — Actively maintained.
  • Repository created 2 days ago — Very new project with little track record yet.
  • 0 GitHub stars — Very little community usage so far.

Optiq

[Try the demo](https://baukaalm.github.io/optiq/try) · [Documentation](https://baukaalm.github.io/optiq/) · Benchmarks

Browser-side image optimisation for uploads. For every image Optiq encodes a bounded set of candidates (jpegli, libwebp, libavif, oxipng — compiled to WebAssembly), measures each one, and returns the smallest output that satisfies your constraint:

  • lossless — decoded pixels (including alpha) are verified identical to the input;
  • visually-lossless — pixels may differ; SSIM ≥ 0.99 against the input (configurable);
  • balanced (default) — SSIM ≥ 0.975, smaller search budget, faster AVIF preset.

AVIF is held to a stricter SSIM threshold than JPEG and WebP. It was calibrated against the independent SSIMULACRA2 metric, which showed SSIM is too lenient on AVIF's smoothing.

The same engine also runs in Node and powers:

  • a CLI (npx optiq-image);
  • a Vite plugin;
  • an MCP server for AI agents (`optiq-mcp`, source in mcp/).

In the browser, work runs in a Web Worker; the main thread only posts a Blob and receives an ArrayBuffer. Results carry the chosen codec/settings, every candidate tried, the measured quality, warnings, fallbacks and unmet constraints.

Benchmarks: see Benchmark results and bench/results/RESULTS.md. Optiq is not uniformly better than the alternatives; the trade-offs (size vs. time vs. memory) are listed there per category.

Install

sh
pnpm add optiq-image # or npm / yarn

Requirements: an ES2022 browser with module Workers and WebAssembly (Chrome/Edge 80+, Firefox 114+, Safari 15+). AVIF *output* is only useful where your audience can decode AVIF (Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+, Safari 16.4+); remove it with autoFormats: ["jpeg", "png", "webp"] otherwise.

Bundler setup (Vite 7 and 8)

ts
// vite.config.ts
export default defineConfig({
  worker: { format: "es" }, // codecs are loaded with dynamic import() inside the worker
  optimizeDeps: {           // dev only: pre-bundling breaks `new URL("x.wasm", import.meta.url)`
    exclude: ["optiq-image", "@jsquash/jpeg", "@jsquash/png", "@jsquash/webp", "@jsquash/avif", "@jsquash/oxipng", "@jsquash/resize"],
  },
});
